Description

ARDEX BU 2 K is a polymer-bitumen modified, two-component liquid applied flexible waterproofing membrane. It can be easily applied by brush, trowel, or spray machine and provides a permanently flexible waterproofing layer.

Classified as W2B waterproof according to EN 15814, ARDEX BU 2 K offers CB 2 class crack-bridging performance, providing excellent flexibility and making it suitable for applications on both horizontal and vertical surfaces. It ensures very good adhesion to bituminous and concrete substrates and achieves rain resistance in a short time.

ARDEX BU 2 K is solvent-free and environmentally friendly, and it is resistant to aggressive substances found in soil.

Use

ARDEX BU 2K is used for waterproofing foundations and floor slabs against ground moisture and non-pressurized water in buildings, on both horizontal and vertical surfaces, for interior and exterior applications.

Depending on groundwater pressure conditions, the product is applied in at least two coats, reinforced with mesh or without reinforcement, in various thicknesses.

  • Foundations and foundation walls
  • Retaining walls
  • Balconies and garden terraces
  • Basements and storage areas
  • External waterproofing of water tanks
  • Walls and floors of parking areas and spaces without enclosed living areas beneath
  • Interior wet areas of buildings like bathrooms
  • Applicable on concrete, mineral and cement-based plasters and screeds, brick, and similar building elements; also suitable for bonding insulation and drainage boards.

Considerations

The surface and ambient temperature must be between 5°C and 35°C.

Application time is inversely proportional to temperature. High temperatures reduce the application time, whereas low temperatures extend it. It should be noted that the pot life of the mortar may shorten depending on the temperature.

The surface can be damp but not wet.

Protect the surface from water, rain and frost during application and drying. Protect the surface from exposure of sun and wind during and after application. The product must not be used as final coating and should be protected from impact and other external factors using an adequate covering. (DIN 18195-10).

Application must not be carried out during rainfall or when there is a risk of rain.

Applied surfaces must be protected against external effects and mechanical impacts and should be covered with suitable protective materials. The surface must not  be left exposed or put into service without proper protection. For the protection of foundation walls in particular, rigid polystyrene insulation boards can be bonded using the same product.

The dry film thicknesses and consumption values specified in the application section are minimum requirements and must not be undercut at any point of the application surface. Thickness control must be carried out by selecting at least one measurement point for every 5 m² area.

The drying time between coats varies depending on ambient conditions and the applied thickness. Subsequent coats must not be applied before the previously applied layer has fully dried.

Before starting the application, product drying times and required thicknesses must be determined, and a mutual application protocol should be prepared with the employer/client.

In case of uncertain or conflicting conditions, it is strongly recommended to carry out a trial application on a small test area in advance.
